According to the “Increasing Opportunity and Reducing Poverty in New York City” report to Mayor Michael Bloomberg:

“Over 1.5 million New Yorkers – almost three times the entire population of the city of Boston – live below the poverty line. This represents 19.1 percent of New York City residents.”

Our goal is to train and place New Yorkers with barriers to employment in sustainable careers in the digital printing and document management industries, enabling them to move out of poverty. There is a continuous need for trained workers in this area. Your print jobs can help provide revenues to fund our training, and are used by our trainers to teach production and quality control techniques. In short, your print jobs change lives.

When asked about the training program Calvan said, “This training has prepared me for more than just digital printing. It has prepared me for what every employee needs to acquire and to keep a job, including accountability, having a ready and willing attitude for work, and keeping a professional look.”

According to Calvan’s internship site supervisor, “Our organization is transitioning from paper to digital document storage; [Calvan] the intern is instrumental in helping us move this initiative forward.”

Calvan’s current duties include scanning and filing and he has requested to be given more responsibilities. “I can create PDF’s, make static forms, send email, and print, bind, scan, cut, and fold documents” says Calvan.

Noel was born and raised in New York City, and came to Workforce Enterprises through a referring agency, the Learning Disabilities Association of New York.

Noel was always one of the first students to arrive, and the last to leave. Even in the first few weeks of training, Noel showed promise not only in the new skills he was learning, but also demonstrated the ability and willingness to help his fellow students.

Always eager to work, Noel’s first post-graduation job was with us, Workforce Enterprises. Noel continued to help train the next class, and also worked on jobs our commercial print shop was producing. Noel was keeping his skills sharp and learning new things until the right opportunity came along…and it did.

We want to sincerely congratulate Noel on his success, and want to thank our customers whose print jobs really did change a life.

DAREN STONE Co-Founder/Human Resources Development &Training Director

Daren Stone is an experienced trainer, mentor and motivator. Throughout his career in the printing and document management industry, he has a reputation of creating excitement and energy around performance standards, which resulted in improved production processes and customer satisfaction.

Daren oversees all aspects of training and production operations within Workforce Enterprises (WE-NYC), including day-to-day training responsibilities and management of the commercial print shop. His vocational training and commercial print production experiences fit well with Workforce Enterprises’ unique model of mutual collaboration and growth. It provides nonprofits with a vocational training program without the associated expenses, and provides employers with trained staff. Under Daren’s supervision, WE-NYC’s program combines classroom study with practical experience in a commercial print shop setting to infuse the training with a heightened sense of purpose.

Prior to joining Workforce Enterprise, Daren served as the Operations Manager at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) where he managed the internal printing and imaging department. The organization provides custody and asset servicing for 3.5 million securities issues from the United States and 110 other countries and territories, valued at $28 trillion. Before joining the DTCC, Daren was the Director of Operations for Binding Together, a nonprofit vocational training school, where he demonstrated his ability to increase employment rates of graduates and increase earned-income revenues by emphasizing quality control and customer service as part of his production training curriculum. Daren efforts resulted in reduced costs, increased graduate employment, improved customer satisfaction and increased commercial revenues by 65% in his first six months.

Other relevant experience includes nine years at Kinko’s as Branch Manger where Daren had P/L responsibility, as well as provided training for new employees and trouble-shooting, retraining and reorganization of problem retail branches.

Daren has a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and is completing his Masters in Business

Joe Hunt is a successful business owner and entrepreneur. During the past 25 years, he has owned profitable businesses, been a strategic consultant and successfully worked with non-profit organizations to enhance their performance and improve their earned-income potential.

In February 2009, Joe founded Workforce Enterprises (WE-NYC), a New York-based, social enterprise that partners with nonprofits to offer a unique workforce development and job placement program within a commercial print shop setting.
Prior to WE-NYC, Joe was the COO of Binding Together, a non-profit vocational training school in lower Manhattan. His business model for Workforce Enterprise is based on the proven effectiveness of the training model he evolved and employer partnerships that he developed at Binding Together. Under his management, the organization’s program performance improved and earned-income revenues increased more than 20%.

Before taking the position with Binding Together, Joe provided marketing and management consulting services to a broad spectrum of clients, including New York Association for New Americans (NYANA) Micro-Lending Program, Alaska SeaLife Center, Prudential Retirement Services, among others. Before that, Joe was a Founding Partner at J. Hunt & Fultz, Inc., a Direct Response Agency and a Partner at Solay/Hunt Inc., a Marketing Communications Agency.

He has served on the Board of Directors of NY American Marketing Association (NYAMA) and taught “Starting A Small Business” courses for the Enterprise Studies Department at Fashion Institute of Technology. He is an avid cyclist, served on the Board of the New York Cycle Club (NYCC), chaired the NYCC Youth Program and continues to lead Club rides.
